In this talk, we will describe an ongoing project to create an Ahead-of-Time (AOT) compiler for WebAssembly in Eclipse OMR. The project began by adapting existing work on a WebAssembly Just In Time (JIT) compiler implemented with Eclipse OMR’s JitBuilder. We will discuss parts of the project that were an immediate success, those that took some extra effort to get working, and those that fell flat. We will conclude with a few pointers on how Eclipse OMR might improve its AOT story as it continues to evolve.
